Silverstone: 15 double duties drivers

ELMS - 24/08/2019 - Sophie LIGER

This season there will be not one, but two, 4 Hours of Silverstone. One for the European Le Mans Series and one for the FIA WEC. If taking part in one of the 4-hour races was not enough action, 16 ELMS drivers will be really busy on the 31st August and 1st September as they will complete double duty by also taking part in the FIA WEC 4 Hours of Silverstone.

The packed timetable will see logistics and time management tested to the maximum for those drivers as they climb from one cockpit into another.

At Cool Racing, it will be the whole driver line-up of Nico Lapierre, Antonin Borga and Alexandre Coigny that will have to push to the limits as they compete in both events., with the Swiss team making its debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Last year’s ELMS LMP2 poleman, Will Stevens, will once again be racing with the n°23 Panis-Barthez Competition Oreca 07.  The English driver will also make his debut with Jackie Chan DC Racing at the wheel of the n°37 Oreca 07 Gibson in the WEC 4 Hours of Silverstone.

The ELMS duo, Phil Hanson and Filipe Albuquerque will be racing for United Autosports in both championships. The Anglo-American team will be looking for making good impression as they make their first appearence in the WEC on home soil.

Other LMP drivers in action in both ELMS and WEC races include Job Van Uitert (G-Drive Racing/ Racing Team Nederland), Pierre Ragues (Duqueine Engineering/ Signatech Alpine ELF) and Anders Fjordbach (High Class Racing). In LMP1, Ben Hanley, driving for DragonSpeed in ELMS, will be at the wheel of the n° 5 Team LNT Ginetta G60-LT-P1.

Alessandro Pier Guidi is the only ELMS drivers in the LMGTE Pro grid of the WEC 4 Hours of Silverstone. The 2017 FIA World GTE Champion will be at the wheel of the n°51 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GTE EVO alongside James Calado.

Five LMGTE Am drivers will pull double stints with Matteo Cairoli (Dempsey Proton Racing/ Team Project 1), Christian Ried and Riccardo Pera (All Dempsey Proton Racing), Nicklas Nielsen (Luzich Racing/ AF Corse) and Thomas Preining (Proton Competition/ Dempsey Proton Racing) in action.

Giving true meaning to the word “Endurance”, these hard-working 15 drivers will be entitled to put their feet up on Sunday evening!
