What happened in Portimão

ELMS - 05/11/2019 - Sophie LIGER

The 4 Hours of Portimão, the finale of the 2019 season, was once again full of action and captivated us from the start to the last lap of the 4-hour race. Here are the highlights of this thrilling week:
  • Idec Sport won their first European Le Mans Series title with Paul Loup Chatin, Memo Rojas and Paul Lafargue. The team also received an invitation to the 2020 24 Hours of Le Mans
  • G-Drive Racing as well as Luzich Racing and Dempsey Proton Racing are the three other teams that won their invitation to the 87th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans
  • During the first laps of the race, 7 cars were involved in an accident followed by a 50-minute red flag
  • The n°22 United Autosports Oreca 07 scored its second pole position of the season in Portimão. It was the fourth pole for the n°77 Dempsey Proton Racing Porsche 911 RSR and the third for the n°19 M Racing Norma M30
  • The LMP3 championship classifications are still provisional following the appeal of Inter Europol Competition (n°13 Ligier JS P3), against steward’s decision n°19 concerning the non-respect of the driving time of their bronze driver during the 4 Hours of Portimão. We will know after the appeal who, from Eurointernational or Inter Europol Competition, will be crowned LMP3 champions.
  • Filipe Albuquerque set the LMP2 circuit best lap during the qualifying session with a lap of 1:31.244. In LMP3, it was Lucas Legeret at the wheel of the n°19 M Racing Norma M30 with a time of 1:39.179 and Matteo Cairoli, with the n°77 Porsche, set the new circuit class record during the LMGTE qualifying with a lap of 1:41.121
  • The same three teams set the lap records during the race
  • 8 cars out of 39 did not finish the final race of the season
