LM P2 - 15/07/2019 - Sophie LIGER
After a difficult start to the 2019 season which saw the Ligier finish 15th in Le Castellet and then 13th in Monza after his French teammate Leo Roussel was side-lined with a back injury following a heavy crash in practice at the Italian round, Clos is hoping that racing in his home city of Barcelona will kick start their season.
A former F1 test driver, Dani Clos is also a race GP2 race winner and former Formula Renault 2.0 champion. In 2017 he switched to Sportscars with two podium finishes from two starts in the Pirelli World Challenge and in 2019 he joined the ELMS. In Barcelona he will once again race with Jakub Smiechowski and with French driver Adrien Tambay replacing Leo Roussel.
We caught up with Dani as he prepares for his home event, the 4 Hours of Barcelona.
Q: As a Spanish driver, does racing at home put more pressure on you?
Of course not!! This is an extra motivation and driving here in Barcelona for my people is an incredible feeling.
Q: What part of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is your favourite?
I really like the last sector. From inside but also because the views from there are amazing.
Q: What do you think of the beginning of the season for Inter Europol Competition in the very competitive LMP2 class?
It's been hard as there are many teams out there with a lot of experience in LMP2. Step by step we will get to the good pace.
Let's hope Barcelona will be our race.
Q: What will be your main goal for the 4 Hours of Barcelona?
Make my people, family and team proud. Bring the ELMS championship closer to the Spanish fans and make the series more known to the Spanish speaking countries.
I think this is the right championship to be and we need to make a big push for our teams, drivers and sponsors.
